Citizen Medic 1

Citizen Medic 1 is a course designed to give you the basics of emergency care in an austere hostile environment in order to stabilize yourself or another, long enough to get the patient to a higher level of medical care. This course covers the basics of stopping people from dying due to severe injuries in a combat environment.

Like all Citadel courses this course is taught with the backdrop of embracing your Martial American Heritage and equipping you to better serve yourself and team by having the basic skills of life saving care. The course will be conducted half of the day involving classroom like instruction and half of the day up and moving working through practical exercises.

Topics Covered:

  • A Fighting/Winning Mindset

  • MARCH

  • IFAKs and Team Medical Bags

  • Gear Considerations

  • Practical exercises, drills and scenarios

What To Bring:

  • An open, teachable mind

  • Your Combat Loadout - Chances are if you are taking this course, it isn’t your first class. For this course we will be doing a small amount of shooting as the day progresses. You should bring your normal combat load out for this course. Whatever your go to gear set up is, bring that. Be it a chest rig, plate carrier, or webbing gear set up. This is an excellent time to test out your gear set up while maneuvering through some situations and scenarios.

    • At a bare minimum your load out should include, a rifle, a few (loaded) mags and an IFAK with at least one TQ (We love the DARK Kits). Bring what you have! Don’t over think it. Bring whatever your set up is and we can make it work.

    • We are assuming you are running this course for a battlefield environment. If are you wanting to run this course with your CCW gear, that is fine too.

    • If you have questions or don’t have a gear set up, email us.

  • Note Taking Gear - you will take lots of notes. A significant portion of this class is done in a classroom like learning environment, bring several pens and lots of paper.

  • Lots of water (gallon jug recommended) and bag lunch

  • PPE

    • Seasonally appropriate clothing suited to dynamic activity (no sandals/shorts), all shooting is outdoors (we shoot rain or shine).

    • Bug spray and sun tan lotion

    • Ear and eye protection

    • Lawn chair (highly recommended)

    • Knee pads (if so desired)

    • Gloves (recommended but not required)

Suggested Pre-Class Reading: American Rifleman by Reid Henrichs - this is by no means a requirement, simply some suggested reading to help enhance your learning experience.

Prerequisites: None.  Citizen Pistol 1 or Citizen Rifle 1 is recommended.

Muzzle awareness and safety will become a larger issue as the day progresses. We do ask that you choose to safely handle your firearm while being mindful of the 4 rules of gun safety at all times. Students who choose to not handle a gun safely will be asked to leave without a course refund.

Physical Fitness Level Required: This course will involve scenarios involving kneeling, moving quickly, and helping to move simulated injured patients. As part of practicing medical care there will be some scenarios involving moderate physical activity.
