The Musashi Sling
What is a sling? At it’s most basic it is a strap that secures your rifle to your body, you will see it called “a holster for your rifle”. A good sling does not need to be fancy, it should be simple, straightforward and functional.
We named this sling after Musashi, because Musashi understood that simple straightforward techniques, executed with violence, are what wins fights. Wild fancy looking moves (or gear) are not is what is needed. What is needed is a few moves (or gear items) that work very well, that the user has honed to razor sharp precision.
We did not try to reinvent a sling to offer a sling for the sake of it. We created a simple straightforward sling that is functional with no frills. There are tons of slings on the market, what makes this different than any other sling? Why even bother making a sling? What could a new sling offer that other’s don’t?
In our years of shooting, we have come to realize that a sling should do a few things very well;
It should adjust easily and smoothly. Obviously, it should stay put once adjusted. We did multiple prototypes with different tri glide buckles and routing of the webbing in ensure this slight slides butter smooth in either direction and stays put once you adjust it.
It should be comfortable. An uncomfortable sling will wear on you (ask us how we know). Gear should be comfortable to provide you with maximum effectiveness. We did NOT add padding to this sling because thick sling pads interferes quickly with other gear (chest rigs, plate carriers, rucks, etc..). So where does the comfort for our sling come from? We increased the width of the “pad” portion. This wide portion allows for the weight distribution across a greater surface area while not stacking padding to interfere with other kit. While it gives the user the feel of a padded portion it is simply a wide double portion of nylon webbing.
Lastly, because we increased the width of the “pad” portion we were able to run a row of molle down the “pad” portion. This allows the user to stage any gear on the sling itself they may find useful. We have personally found it a fantastic place to stage tourniquets.
The Musashi Sling, in the spirt of it’s namesake, provides a sling that is straightforward, functional and simple. The beauty of this comfortable sling is not in some radical new design, but is in the execution of functional simplicity. We hope this sling finds a home on all of your rifles and allows to focus on shooting and not on your sling.
