Recently I have been eyeing the new(er) Springfield XD Mod 2. While they came out with a compact version more than a year ago, they have more recently released the mod 2 in a full size handgun.
While I've never actually held one (which is why this is the gun of the week and not a full onreview), from everything I've read and seen the "grip zone" seems to live up to its name.
They gave this thing a fiber optic front sight which is really cool and a cold hammer forged barrel. The trigger also looks pretty crisp which is a huge plus in a polymer frame gun. I really like front slide serrations that they put on these.
They also put out a "tactical" model. The only difference seems to be that the tactical model has a 5 inch barrel on it. Which, is pretty cool. So if you add an inch on your barrel length I guess that makes it tactical.
The tactical model does look like it would be a great home defense pistol. And the pricing seems super reasonable.
If you haven't taken a look at the Springfield Armory XD Mod 2 yet, it might be time to take a gander.
